Congratulations to the FTS Boys a.k.a. Chuck Araneta, Carlo Pamintuan and Polo Bustamante for making it to their 50th episode! I may have not followed you from the beginning (only from episode 27 - the Gary David vs Mark Caguioa for MVP debate), but I'm glad I was able to start when I did!

It's great when you finally realize that your hobby can actually become  your day job... and maybe that's not the case YET... but I'm sure you guys are headed there. I'm ecstatic that you guys got picked up... and I'm relieved its GMA... the same company that basically gives free reign to Mico Halili and For-the-Win (FTW). At least we know that the "network" won't hinder your creative output (no matter how craazy it turns out to be.. hehe).

50. the Golden Episode. A historic moment. A significant milestone reached. Soak it all in guys... coz now ur definitely going to "Beat the Sharks" on itunes, right?  #Clearly! Congrats guys! Proud of you!

Super Scorers || from GARY DAVID to KEVIN LOUIE ALAS

3/28/2013

From an outgoing shooting specialist from the PBA to an incoming super scorer from the NCAA, they both get the priviledge of being part of the Smart Gilas Team Pilipinas that won in Hong Kong last January, 2013, where both of their heroics gained the Philippines the coveted gold.

It is a special bond that is formed when two players from different generations get to play together. If this indeed is the beginning of the passing of the torch, Gary David can't have chosen a better recipient than Kevin Louie Alas.

FYI: Gary David fan over here (if it were not obvious, lolz)

Three-time scoring champion of the PBA and member of the national team, Gary David is featured in this episode of HomeCourt, a segment of PTV Sports in NBN 4.

He and his family give a tour of their home, answers questions about life outside basketball, and gives us a glimpse of who "El Granada" is outside the PBA.

As a special treat, we get to see the whole family (plus some PTV Sports staff) doing the HARLEM SHAKE!

All credits go to PTV4, PTV Sports, and Gary David.

NOTE: Thank you, sir Snowbadua!

And the Alaska Aces, on their out of town game in Tubod, Lanao del Norte, vs Ginebra, used the opportunity to shoot their own version of the Harlem Shake last February 23, 2013.

Since AKTV had already featured Air 21 and Joe Devance's version (plus their own) during the previous week, it was only fittin that they also feature the Alaska Aces' performance.

Cyrus Baguio hits buzzer-beating fastbreak layup to tow
Alaska over Rain or Shine

Eric Dawson drops 37 points to carry Meralco over Talk ‘N Text
Cyrus Baguio hit a fastbreak layup in transition to beat the buzzer and give the Alaska Aces an 83-81 victory over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Saturday night at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Baguio’s basket capped a thrilling endgame comeback for the Aces, who needed a desperation 25-foot three-pointer from Calvin Abueva to tie the game at 81-all with 10 seconds left in the game.

Rain or Shine set up a play for import Bruno Sundov for its final possession. But the attempt of the 7-foot-3 Croatian was foiled at the basket by Abueva, leading to a loose ball.

Alaska made the loose ball recovery and got the ball to Baguio, who raced downcourt past three Elasto Painters to score the game-winning layup.

Eric Dawson has served notice.

The Meralco import scored 16 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Bolts to an impressive 99-92 victory over the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters in the Commissioner’s Cup Saturday night at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Dawson added 14 rebounds and four blocks for the Bolts, who squandered an 18-point first half lead before recovering in time to turn back the Tropang Texters.

“We played Talk N Text at the right time. They didn’t have extensive practice together and they have two new guys on their roster,” said Ryan Gregorio.

“We, on the other hand, were practicing a long time. Eric has been practicing for us for the past three weeks.”

Gilas Pilipinas: from PARA SA BAYAN to LABAN NG BAYAN

If we get to the
FIBA WORLD CUP:

Rafe Bartholomew's  "Philippine's unlikely affair with basketball"

needs to have a sequel
that says:

"a Match Made in Heaven"
Picture
The Philippines is became known for boxing because of our fighters making it to the international stage... but then, only a handfull of people in the nation actually box.

If the Philippines finally gets to FIBA World Cup... we become known for BASKETBALL, then that would finally achieve what Rafe Bartholomew has been trying to do... to show the WORLD that the Philippines's  "unlikely affair with basketball" has actually turned out to be a "Match Made in Heaven".

Yesterday, the pool of 17 that will be taking on that extra burden of carrying the nation.

The next 6 months are critical. In the next 3 months, while the Commissioner's Cup is going on, this group will only be meeting once a week. Its a good thing that they have 15 guys who are familiar with of Coach Chot's system, (7 of which play it all year round). Only 2 need to learn it, within the next 3 months, before they go to training camp in Lithuania.

In Lithuania, they are isolated... they are focused... it's their training camp. After this, they go on and spar.

Then they come back and play in the PBA All Star Weekend... going against team who we could almost be sure, would feature other more popular PBA stars. They also play Yao Ming's Shanghai Sharks. They would also invite teams from other middle eastern countries...And finally, they defend the Jones Cup title... before coming back home for the ULTIMATE BATTLE here on our own turf.  As it gets closer, I'm sure the pressure will mount... but unlike preparing for a Championship in the PBA... a loss here will be heartbreaking, not just for them... but for the whole nation. Because this is the LAST CHANCE... to finally break out of Asia, and into the World Stage.

The hardest part of the climb is the push to the summit... where you have to find that extra ounce of energy and drive to overcome all obstacles and get to the top. You are at that part. And when the Final Battle comes... you'll be playing in at atmosphere unlike never before. This time, the WHOLE CROWD will be cheering for you... and unlike a Ginebra vs BMEG in the PBA or an ADMU vs DLSU in the UAAP where half is for, and half is against... this time... EVERYONE - the bands, the streamers, the tshirts, the screams... will all be for you.

We're in this together... We're supporting all the way... Go Gilas! Go Pilipinas!

It's no longer PARA SA BAYAN... it should be LABAN NG BAYAN... #PUSO

Remembering Karlo Maquinto

This was a video reaction to Carlo Pamintuan's article:
Underdog Boxing: A year without Karlo Maquinto http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/293251/sports/opinion/underdog-boxing-a-year-without-karlo-maquinto
To the boxer I never knew...

Nothing haunts more than a bunch of "WHAT IFs" and nothing hurts more than the self recriminating "IF ONLY".

Upon the anniversary of that crucial fight, Marvin Somodio posted a picture of him with you, on his FB profile...

Upon the anniversary of your death, Carlo Pamintuan wrote an article trying to describe the effect you death had on the people closest to you...

These 2 moments made my tears rush up, and though I may be a year late, that of emotion spurred me to try to get to know you a little bit more and in my own way, pay tribute to one who my friends found an "inspiration".
